Association Day: Nov. 2
Mingle with top associations and our sponsors during the premier event of the year. We will hear Jim McIngvale (Mattress Mack) on "How to Make Your Association Stand Out." As a successful businessman, community activist and philanthropist, Mack should be able to spot the top organizations in town. His marketing insight is legendary as he parlayed $5,000 and a "dream" into a furniture operation that now generates $200 million in sales per year.
Sponsors for this event include Avectra, Benefit Concepts, Inc., Hobby Center, Hilton Houston Post Oak, Inn at the Ballpark, Loren R. Cook & Associates, Omni Houston Hotel, Principal Financial Group, SMG-Reliant Park, Schipul-The Web Marketing Company, and Social Solutions.

The Houston Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA), led by former HSAE President Tammy Betancourt, CAE, and the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), Houston Chapter, led by Jo D. Miller, HSAE president-elect, donated $85,000 to Harris County Protective Services (HCPS) on Oct. 29. This donation was the proceeds of a joint BOMA and IREM's 22nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament which attracted over 450 golfers, sponsors and volunteers. The funds will help HCPS in serving local children who have been removed from their home.
The Houston CPA Society under former HSAE president Nancy Rutledge, held its 18th annual Golf Classic to benefit Make-A-Wish of the Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana on Oct. 29. Final proceeds are being determined at presstime but the costs of the tournament were underwritten by the Sam & Ada Petro Foundation this year, so that all the sponsor and player proceeds will go to the charity. Houston Astro Woody Williams, along with sports broadcaster Craig Roberts of KTBU Sports OffCenter and 790 The Sports Animal, were celebrity hosts along with Wish Child Michael Allen. Miss Texas U.S.A. and Miss Houston U.S.A. also participated in the silent auction following the tournament. KTBU-Channel 55 was the media sponsor of the event.
